Does your middle schooler tell elaborate stories and have a wild imagination or a passionate love of reading? They may be hungry for an opportunity to free the storyteller inside! Does your high schooler struggle to find a place and a way to express him or herself creatively? Do you already have an aspiring writer in your family?

YouthWrite will give them a creative community, inspiration for writing, a small bit of instruction (I call it a “nudge”), and a supportive audience to listen. Empower your young writer to find their voice through creative exploration of words and writing styles. Support them as they find their confidence to speak and present in front of others.

Classes begin with a social icebreaker and sharing of the previous week’s writing activity. Youthwrite kids’ creative writing classes will cover broad concepts like poetry, fiction and personal essay, with more detailed exploration of specific writing elements that are fun for kids, such as alliteration, rhyme and story plot.

Kids’ creative writing programs have limited class capacity – both for online and in-person programs – to give everyone an opportunity to participate. Classes are divided according to age group, with age-appropriate explanations of creative writing concepts, plus opportunities to share their ideas and projects with the group!
